Great Value Lemonade Drink Mix Sticks (Walmart)

Image
If you like your lemon drinks tart, then this one is for you. Shopping at Aldi really kind of blinds your eyes to just how many choices there are in life, sometimes. For example, with drink mixes, Aldi has a few different flavor choices for “regular”, and have recently added a few flavors caffeine-enhanced “energy” varieties. That’s pretty much it. So then imagine my shock when I go to other stores and am bombarded with 50 different varieties and flavors...such was the case when my wife and I went to Walmart on a shopping trip during a beach vacation. How in the hell does one decide on just one? Actually, it was made somewhat easy via process of elimination: I didn’t need the kind with caffeine, and a bunch of the other “regular” ones were sold out; out of the remaining options, I settled on lemonade, simply because it's a common flavor that no one should be able to screw up. (The same can't be said for flavors like "kiwi strawberry" and other odd combinations that c

Kroger Refresh Raspberry Lemonade Drink Mix Sticks (Kroger)

I'd rather drink water. This story starts off like so many others: I was at Kroger, when I suddenly realized that I didn’t have any drink mix sticks. I don’t use them all the time - I’m trying to get “used” to the taste of water, as if anyone can get used to something so goddamned boring - but I still like to have some on hand, just in case I want a little something more in the flavor department.  I’m not sure I’ve ever had any from Kroger…maybe I have, I guess all of the different private labels just kind of blend together after a while. At any rate, as I’ve mentioned before, Aldi’s limited selection was preventing me from experiencing a wide plethora of different kinds flavors. Not only do we have regular sticks, but we also have ones specifically for energy and sport performance, and any other number of situations. And, thanks to Kroger, you can add “refresh” to the list of covered situations. I really don’t know what territory this is supposed to cover that regular drink mixes

Great Value Fruit Punch Drink Mix Sticks (Walmart)

Solid value makes this one worth a purchase. We don’t need to go into a long preface with this one: long story short, wife and I were on vacation with her family, we went to the beach for a week, and did all of our shopping at Walmart. That left me with plenty of chances to try products that I wouldn’t normally try, from a store that we don’t normally go to, for reasons that we have covered in other blog posts. So, without further ado, let’s jump in, shall we? We’ve already tried a couple other varieties of Walmart’s Great Value drink mix sticks, and to mixed reviews; let’s see how their fruit punch - a flavor that I’m pretty well accustomed to because it happens to be one of my favorites - fares, shall we? It smells inviting, with a strong (albeit fakey) fruit punch scent that takes me back to the sugary drinks of my childhood. It really does have a strong Kool-Aid kind of vibe that might be off-putting to some, but it’s always been enticing to me, if only for the nostalgia factor. It

Kroger Now That's Cheesy! Cheese Flavored Puffed Corn Curls (Kroger)

Image
What you're expecting: no more, no less. Kroger’s “puffed corn curls” are perhaps better known as “cheese puffs”, as you can tell from the image on the packaging. And if there’s any one item I’ve had where virtually every brand tastes and looks exactly like the others, it’s cheese puffs. Is the formula so well known that every brand just copies off an existing recipe? Or is it just one company who has a monopoly on the cheese puff market and makes every single private label brand across the nation?  The latest challenger to this concept, Kroger, only further enhances my own beliefs on the subject: these are cheese puffs. The texture is light and airy, which is probably what you’re expecting because so is every other brand. There’s a slight crunch once you bite in, which quickly dissipates once the curl starts melting in your mouth, the way all of them are designed to do. The powdered cheese coating gets all over fingers and mouths, the way it does across the board; it is also almos

George Men's Basic Flip-Flops, Red (Walmart)

A very basic, functional flip-flop at a great price. Can I be honest with you guys? I had never worn a pair of flip-flops before I met my wife. In fact, I didn’t even wear a pair until after we were married. I’m pretty sure it would have been the summer of 2010, which was the first time I accompanied her (and her family) to the beach. And if that timeline is correct, that means I would have been the ripe old age of...26. That’s right, dear readers, I had never owned, or wore, a pair of sandals until I was 26 years old. And the times in between then are pretty much non-existent; the only time I ever wear them is when I’m at the beach. I just feel like they’re pretty uncomfortable to wear in daily life, and I’m also not one to really show off my feet...call me old-fashioned, but I feel like those are one of those body parts meant to be covered up at all times. Feet just can't be attractive no matter how you look at them or dress them up. I don’t even remember what sandals I bought th
