Simply Nature Organic Orange Banana Strawberry 100% Juice (Aldi)

Image
A very good juice, but worth the organic price premium? I’ve been in an organic juice kick lately, for reasons unknown even to me, so let’s continue that trend by taking a look at Simply Nature’s Organic Orange Banana Strawberry juice, which is available as a seasonal special buy from Aldi stores. I find it a little odd that it’s in a carton...usually I feel like organic juices are presented in a more premium way, whereas this one just kind of gets lost amidst all the other non-organic drinks on the same shelf. The packaging design is also rather uninspired. Usually I don’t notice or even care about packaging design, but something about this is just so...bland that I almost subconsciously didn’t buy it. (Well, that and the heightened price thanks to the “organic tax”). However, orange pineapple banana just might be my favorite juice of all time, and even though I love pineapple juice, I figured subbing strawberry in for pineapple should still yield some delicious results. And so into

Elevation Advance Caramel Double Chocolate Crunch Light Meal Bar (Aldi)

A stupid stock photo until I remember to take an actual product photo. Another day, another Elevation product! For those not in the know, Elevation is Aldi’s line of protein/”health” bars and other snacks. Personally, I don’t know why I keep buying stuff from this line, because they’re expensive and most of them aren’t very good, but there have been a couple diamonds in the rough...I guess enough to justify buying yet another variety. So let’s see how this one goes! First impression: Chances are, this is going to be good. It’s an attractive-looking bar (in a completely non-sexual way) with a delicious-looking layer of chocolate totally surrounding the entire exterior. I’m a sucker for any kind of bar (and most products in general) that have a layer of caramel directly underneath a layer of chocolate, and judging from the product image on the front of the wrapper, this looks like it executes that idea rather well. Second impression: cancel that first impression, because this is pretty

Clancy's Nashville Hot Chicken Kettle Chips (Aldi)

Nah. I gotta be honest here: I love me some fried chicken, but I’ve never had it Nashville hot chicken style. This is despite having a popular hot chicken place open up relatively close to our home about 6 or so years ago (maybe longer...it’s amazing how time disrupts all but the most steadfast memories); I made a mental note to check it out, and then, true to form, lost interest a short while later. So I figured I would live vicariously through this bag of hot chicken chips, which is being featured as an Aldi special buy. Let’s crack open the bag and see what we can get into, shall we? It actually smells pretty good...I could see it being the first smell that wafts into your nostrils as you walk into a fried chicken joint, something I haven’t done in such a long time that I’m actually kind of embarrassed. Especially since I would consider fried chicken to be one of my favorite foods, yet go months without even thinking about it. There’s the inviting hint of spices in the aroma, and y

Mama Cozzi's Queso Stuffed Nachos (Aldi)

Every bit as good as I thought they would be. I see a lot of products in Aldi’s weekly ad which, may I remind you, I peruse weekly. Every single week for the last 15 or so years, no matter what I’m doing, I find time at some point to check out the limited time Special Buys that Aldi will be featuring. And it’s usually at some point on Wednesday, which is the day they arrive in my email inbox. I typically always see at least one or two products that catch my eye, but it’s pretty rare that there’s one that becomes “love at first sight”. Believe it or not, these were, and for a variety of reasons. First of all, I already love nachos in their regular form, so how could I pass on the chance to eat breaded nachos with the normal toppings already stuffed inside? It’s one of those products I typically berate on here - the type of overly processed foods for which us Americans are known - but there’s just something about the idea that really spoke to me. Maybe it was the fact that I haven’t seen

Meijer White Pizza (Meijer)

A good no-frills pizza option at a good price. I don’t go to Meijer very often with my wife, who usually stops on her way home from work, but I’ve mentioned on at least a couple previous occasions that it’s probably my favorite of the major supermarket chains around us. It tends to be cheaper than Kroger, and while its prices can’t compete, still feels more “upscale” than Walmart, making it a solid middle ground. It can’t come close to toppling Aldi, but it’s a solid option for when we have to do supplemental shopping for the items Aldi doesn’t carry (or is sold out of). I don’t have a lot of reviews of their store-branded products on here, and I figured what better way to change that than by taking a look at one of their products! I’ve had a few of their cereals and breakfast bars, but haven’t really tried too many of their frozen offerings, so this time we’re going to be looking at the Meijer White Pizza, which I grabbed on a whim. This one checked all the boxes for my wife and mysel
